Dominant vs. Dominate

Admittedly this is a pet peeve of mine but I'm seeing it more and more.

Dominate:

verb, infinitive "to dominate" ... "to have a commanding influence on; to exercise control over ...", as in "She tends to dominate the conversation."

Dominant:

1) adjective, "most important, powerful, or influential", as in "She's a dominant woman."
2) noun, "a dominant thing or person", as in "She's a dominant, not a sub"

No one is a "dominate." That like saying "I am a run." "I am a sleep." "I am a talk."

(This is a minor rewrite of the essay I posted elsewhere in 2011. Please do not distribute or cross-post. Thanks!)

R e c o g n i z i n g F a k e P r o f i l e s

What appears below is the result of hours of discussion with many room mods, self-styled 'detectives,' and others interested in the quality of the online and chat experience here. It came about because of the presence of these types of members in my chat rooms, but the matter is also of more general concern. I've been told of members that have upward of 100 profiles they can use to cause mischief.

Lets also keep in mind that the amount of mischief that can be caused from a fake profile is normally pretty minimal. They can be obnoxious and disruptive. They can antagonize room members. Most of this can be overcome simply by banning. Even the most energetic prankster will at some point get tired of answering all the questions and inventing content or lack of for new profiles.

Types of Phonies

Before launching into all the evidence, I should point out that there are various levels of phoniness. The main object of your concern should numbers 1 and 2 below. Numbers 3 through 6 are more harmless, and much more difficult to accurately detect.

1)The Total Phony : This is the worst. A profile can be a total deception where not one thing is true. The purpose of this is usually very bad ... to attack another alt member or chatroom or to ingratiate themselves into a room for some bad reason, like to become a mod, an inside plant, etc. Another purpose can be to scene in an obnoxious or insincere way ... to 'game' Alt or its members.

2)The Gender Phony : Similar to above, but the focus of the deception is the emulation of the opposite gender, usually a man pretending to be a woman. Pictures on these will usually be missing.

3) The Physical Phony : These phonies may be real, but ashamed of their physical self. They're real in every way, except about their physical description or pictures.

4) The 'Wishful Thinking' Phony : These phonies have written profiles not of themselves as they really are, but of who they'd like to be. They're building themselves into what they believe to be a more attractive identity. This may be as harmless as a heavy person on a reducing program, who will eventually BE the person they describe.

5) The 'Honest' or Redundant Profile Phony : This person may not have been able to work all of their kinks into one profile ... perhaps wants to have multiple profiles, each to emphasize a specific kink. Some are done to present themselves as part of a specific relationship. Often these will be compounds with a master or mistress' name.

6) The Security Phony : These are people who cannot afford to be identified at all costs. Politicians, first ladies, teachers, clergy all come to mind. These profiles often have minor twists of reality, like listing a close but different home location so they won't be instantly identified, a different birthday but one close to their real one, very slight differences to their physical and other descriptions. Remember that many people have much to lose if identified and scandalized. These kinds of minor twists of truth can also be easily explained should they decide to try a real meet with someone they feel they can trust.

Evidence of Phonies

Few of the items list below are an absolutely sure sign of a fake all by themselves. Some mods may also HAVE some of these issues in their own profiles, and I urge you to fix those ASAP if so. The question is really how MANY of these signs are present, and how does this square with what they say and do? Phony profiles are usually done in haste, and with a particular goal in mind. No one likes the incredible number of questions that are thrown at them in doing their own profile, and phonies are far more interested in getting into the rooms than they are perfecting their profile. They know that standard members can't even READ most of the profile, so what's the advantage to filling it out completely?

A. Profile evidence

Date of Alt Membership : Is it a seasoned profile or is it very recent? Was it made in the last 2 weeks? Two months? Most phony profiles are invented for a specific and immediate need, and are either closed or abandoned when that need is over. The longer a profile is in use, the longer people have to accumulate data about it, share information, etc.

Payment Status : Are they a standard member? Phonies will rarely put money down. I know many of my mods are standard members and I'm not suspicious of you on this basis--however I do encourage you to consider upgrading as you can afford it to at least silver so that you can read profiles fully and send email to members if you have concerns or questions.

Last Visit : Most of the time your customer will have visited recently. This is usually a factor when checking a string of prior profiles to see which ones are currently being used.

Profile Text : Are there obvious capitalization or spelling errors, or errors of syntax and construction that could be seen and fixed? This is a sign of haste, and it is stronger evidence the LONGER a profile has been in existence. Real people will NOT want to look like idiots, so as they refine and review, they'll fix the errors.

Profile Text in light of Location : Sort of the opposite of the above--is the written matter perfect when we would expect errors? Does their written English reflect the region, or country they say they are from? People that list English as their second or later languages will be expected to have some syntax awkwardness or spelling in English to show that English IS a second language for them. Check too to see if this is an US, UK, or Australian person living abroad.

Introduction Title : Is it a quick one line that seems to have no focus, like "just here to meet new friends"? Phony titles usually leave no one on Alt out.

Introduction : Is it one sentence or a few very short sentences? Phonies won't write a book. They will save all of their credibility building for the chat room dialog. Remember that this part of a profile is where the person will try to attract the person(s) they WANT. If they seem to want everyone, that's very bad. Most members are trying to get rid of time wasters right at the outset. Are there specific things being asked for? Are there specific things NOT wanted? Does it say 'more coming later'? If it’s a seasoned profile, then this looks even more suspicious.

Photos : Are there photos? And if there are, do they pass tineye? Phony pictures are prohibited on Alt, but some people do use them in innocence ... they want to set a tone about themselves without notifying someone who may be in touch with their spouse, parents, employer, etc. The wrong thing may be done for an understandable reason. If the pictures are voluminous, and downloaded from a porn site, it usually means fraud of some kind. Remember that lack of a picture, or use of only non-identifiable pictures, should be seen as potentially a good thing on Alt. Most real people have huge issues if their presence on Alt comes to be generally known. Grainy and unprofessional pictures are also to be preferred.

Birth date : Is the month January, the day the first of the month, or the year 1980? Those are Alt's defaults, and although many people wisely change some detail about their birth date (it is, after all used by credit reporting to track you), the acceptance of the defaults indicate at least a level of haste. Honest profiles will change it so that it truly reflects their real age so as not to disappoint potential matches.

Age : We can assume that the phony will choose an age to display that will be popular with most people, and attractive. This means that it will usually be from 20-40.

Sexual orientation : For women this will be bi usually, and for men, straight.

Body Type : Anything out of the ordinary adds credibility. Body types like 'a little extra padding' or 'ample' are not normally chosen by phonies. Very small breasts are more believable. Anything that sounds ugly like diseases or amputations are more likely to indicate truthfulness, unfortunately, but the lack of such doesn't indicate anything.

Personal detail: This includes smoking, drinking, drugs, etc.: Do these mostly say 'prefer not to say?' One or two of these are expected, but rows of that is a very bad sign. One of the reasons they list so little is to remove the need to remember all they say, in case they’re asked about it later. They assume that what they say in chat rooms won’t be remembered by most people.

Email : Have they set 'Love Settings' so that only the people they seek will be able to contact them? Phonies won't often care what their inbox fills up with.

Friends Network and Testimonials : Rarely will the phony have anything here. Often they are too new to have had any, but they also don't want to give away who they're talking/playing with for fear of giving you more information about them and people to check with about them.

Activity : It takes total newbies at alt some time before they even FIND the interest group chat rooms, let alone sift them enough to know which ones they want to join. Did a brand new member immediately run and join a bunch of rooms? That's the sign of an experienced member who wants to defeat bans on their other profiles. If they run immediately to join your room, it’s almost a sure sign that you have them on your ban list as another member. Do the rooms they belong to have a common theme? Are the rooms they belong to all yours?

Continuous Membership : Are they still members of the rooms they joined, or did they quit and are no longer members there to avoid possible bans? People that are hostile will join a room to gain access, and then quit immediately. Check activity to see if they've joined the same room over and over again.

B. Scene and Behavior evidence

Do they put on the 'black hat'? Do they appear to be outlaws, or even criminal in their behavior? Do they threaten people? Tell people they have personal information or give it out? Do they threaten to disrupt rooms or actually do so? Do they post repeated things like a song verse or a bible verse ... just to destroy the room talk and get everyone to leave? Those kinds of things need to be reported to alt as quickly as possible.

Do they seem too 'easy'? It’s very rare in life, or on Alt, that we'll find the ideal partner, and without considerable preamble. Does the person you're chatting with seem interested in talking or getting to know you at all before diving straight into sex? Is there much friendly chitchat and does it include any real life background? Do they launch right into an intense scene? Do they take things to extremes right away? Have they read your profile and are they conforming to exactly what YOU say you're looking for?

Do they seem familiar? Do you see a characteristic spelling error that's used by someone else you know, or a favorite expression or cliché? Also, most people can't manage multiple, and very distinct and internally consistent character creations. They have a limited number of specific kinks and will work around to them without fail somewhere in their scenes.

Are they 'location aware'? Do they know the geography, issues, weather, time, etc., of the place they say they're from? Do they know the local newspaper name? Do they know who's president, prime minister, mayor, etc.? Do they know what Interstate Highways run through their own area?

Does personal detail change? Do they have one time you talk to them and not the next? Do they even remember the details from their profile? I recently heard of a situation where a person that was well known to another began to scene in ways that were totally different, suggesting that there might be two or more people operating one profile.

Do they stick out a fight or confrontation? Most phonies, if confronted, will just leave. If they sense that you're not 'buying them' then they usually just disappear. They won't waste one more moment trying to satisfy you. If they do bail, watch the newcomers like a hawk because they may be back in with a new persona.

Do they have any visible humanity? Most phonies will be ‘in character’ all the time--always horny, always ready to scene and interested in almost nothing else. Real people care about being people along with maintaining their personae. They have interests in simple friendship with others, including members of their same gender. They have senses of humor.

A quick litmus test of a phony:

Ask their horoscope sign. Sure it’s possible that they don't know, but not likely. Even those people that don't follow astrology will at least know their 'sign.' A phony usually won't have taken the precaution to work that out ahead of time and have it ready. If they answer after a long delay, it means they've probably had to check their own profile to know what birth date they put down when they made the profile, and then go to Google for a sign chart. Don't worry about a quick answer that might be one or two days away from what they say ... they may have changed the birth date slightly. You're looking for a long telltale pause.

(Formerly "Sugar's Forced Breeding Barn")

"Forced" was removed due to the changing nature of the room and the fact that it was virtually never done!

This room is NO BIRTH CONTROL! Women that enter the barn are there for one main reason ... to be bred by any and all of our men. We welcome single women and married women that are either cheating or cucking their husbands. Women may also play with each other, especially during periods of inaction.
